Three regulatory actions landed inside twenty-four hours, in three jurisdictions, aimed at three different problems. What they have in common is that none of them used a statute written for the technology in question. The FCC’s ban on foreign advanced robotic devices covers any new ground-based, software-controlled wireless robot weighing more than 4.4 pounds. Because the threshold is defined by mass and locomotion rather than by capability, the rule reaches warehouse automation platforms, inspection robots, delivery machines, and consumer robot vacuums alike.

Google has released its Lyria 3.5 music generation model inside Google Flow Music, citing improvements in musicality, lyric handling, vocal quality, and creative control over the previous version. The listed improvements are worth reading closely because they describe where generative music has actually been failing. Musicality is the catch-all for structure: whether a generated track has a discernible arrangement rather than a texture that continues for two minutes. Lyric quality has been the weakest link in every commercial system, since a model that produces plausible melody and instrumentation frequently produces words with no internal logic.

GPTZero has identified apparent AI-generated hallucinations in four PwC Middle East reports, following earlier investigations by the same firm that led EY and KPMG to retract reports containing similar fabrications. Three of the four largest professional services firms have now had published client-facing work called into question by an outside detection vendor. The pattern matters more than any individual document. These are not internal drafts or marketing pieces. They are deliverables carrying a firm’s name, produced under engagement letters, and in some cases used as inputs to investment and policy decisions.

Intel has given a new startup called Rosaic access to its Atom processor technology, according to sources and documents. Rosaic is led by Amarjit Gill, who has co-invested alongside Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan for years. The technology decision is defensible on its own terms. Atom is Intel’s low-power x86 line, a product family that has been repeatedly repositioned, repeatedly deprioritized, and never quite retired. It has real value in embedded, industrial, and edge applications where x86 compatibility matters and power budgets are tight, and it has never been the platform Intel’s own resources are pointed at.

Meta reported second-quarter revenue of $60.8 billion, up 28% year over year, family daily active people of 3.6 billion on average for June, up 3%, and guided third-quarter revenue below consensus. The stock fell more than 8% after hours. Underneath the headline sit three numbers that explain the reaction better than the guide does: $2.4 billion in charges related to legal proceedings, $1.18 billion in severance connected to the May layoff of about 8,000 staff, and free cash flow of $784 million, down 91%.

In the fourth quarter Microsoft’s Anthropic investment produced a $3.2 billion gain while its OpenAI position was marked down by roughly $600 million, against a $5 billion gain on that same OpenAI position for the full year. Two frontier lab stakes, held by one company, moving $3.8 billion in opposite directions inside ninety days. There is no operating business inside Microsoft that swings that hard that fast, which makes the other income line the most volatile input in the model and the least analyzed.

Microsoft reported fourth-quarter capital expenditure of $41 billion, up 70% year over year, and simultaneously lowered its 2026 capex forecast to $175 billion from $190 billion. The company was explicit that spending plans have not changed. An accounting change did. That combination deserves more attention than it will get, because a $15 billion reduction in a guidance figure that everyone on the street uses as a proxy for compute added is not a reduction in compute added.

Moonshot AI closed a $3.5 billion round at a $35 billion valuation, having initially targeted somewhere between $1 billion and $2 billion, and plans a Hong Kong listing as early as this year. CXMT’s IPO prospectus disclosed that Alibaba holds a stake of nearly 5%, now worth more than $20 billion, against a closing market capitalization of roughly $464 billion on July 28. One model developer and one DRAM manufacturer, heading for the same venue, at valuations set almost entirely by domestic capital.

Three rounds closed in a single session, all funding the same problem from different angles. Onyx Security raised a $113 million Series B led by Bessemer for a platform that lets enterprises deploy AI agents securely, taking total funding to $153 million. Groundcover raised a $100 million Series C led by One Peak for observability software capable of monitoring AI agents, bringing its total to $160 million. Spur Intelligence raised $200 million led by Insight Partners for technology that distinguishes human from bot traffic to identify fake users and threats.

I’ve been dismissive of the line that AI would create more jobs than it destroys. It always sounded like something you say to a select committee — technically unfalsifiable, emotionally reassuring, and never accompanied by a name or a wage. I assumed the people saying it couldn’t produce a single worker who was better off. They can now. It’s just nobody they were talking about. OpenAI, Google, Meta, and BlackRock are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands, at some of the highest pay the construction trades have ever seen.
